  • Position indicates spatial depth.
  • Close to, or sinks below the bottom of the picture plane: appears close to the viewer
  • Close to, or disappears  to the side of the picture plane: appears as peripheral vision
  • Close to the top of the picture plane or rising above: appears as distant, or hanging from above
  • inside the picture plane, other factors such as scale indicate space

Class exercise: Describing space by creating a mark representing the size and shape of objects in the room.  Using value and position to create space.

Review: direction: diagonal, horizontal, vertical, impilactions and uses.  Value range.  Figure/ground.
