Wrap up plan and final drawing assignment, the good news

1 12 2009

We will have our final critique on TUESDAY December 8th.  That’s next Tuesday.  ATTENDANCE  IS REQUIRED.

On Thursday December 4th I will hand you your running grade including absences.  If you want to complete or re-do any assignments it must now be  a NEW drawing which addresses the assignment.  You can give me these assignments before Friday December 11th.

You will be able to pick up your final drawing on Friday December 11, or in the following week.

You have already received your directions for improving and continuing your final drawing.  If you did not do the assignment or have been asked to re-do the assignment, that drawing is due on THURSDAY.  Your final assignment is:

An scene interior WITH a view to the exterior.

Day or night, but it must show that the difference in light from the interior to the exterior.

VALUE
This must be a full range value drawing, from the lightest lights all the way to black.

LIGHT
Keep in mind what we have talked about in terms of incidental light, reflected light, and cast shadow.  This will help show the interior light, exterior light, and how the light falls on objects.  IT’S EASIER TO HAVE ONE LIGHT SOURCE IN A ROOM.  Keep in mind that when you have multiple light sources, you have to go by what you SEE.

PERSPECTIVE
Keep in mind that everything needs to be in a consistent perspective, particularly  if I demonstrated something to you in class.  You may well have different viewpoints in your drawing.  How does your viewpoint help to make your drawing interesting?  Is there anything you need to do provide more interest?

MOVEMENT
Throughout the semester there has been talk and a presentation on movement, what leads your eye to a particular place, what makes it stop there.  Some things we have mentioned are direction, value changes, and the amount of detail and how detail might diminish, or softness/ hardness of an edge.  What can you do to help lead the eye around the drawing?

MOOD
We have just begun to talk more about mood, how it can relate to value and subject, and will talk more about that on Thursday.

Does this assignment need to be done with sharpie on a small piece of white paper or do we use the white charcoal on black paper?
